Turning a Street Into a Live Design Lab
The 14th Street Creative Corridor at Pratt Manhattan is a connected series of communication design, environmental design, exhibition and moving-image projects using Manhattan’s 14th Street as a living design laboratory.
Rather than working from hypothetical briefs, designers responded to a real New York City corridor—its architecture, storefronts, movement, visual culture and public audience. As a result, the initiative connected design education with site-specific communication and public-facing creative work.

Environmental Activation
Design teams developed site-specific concepts for activating the Pratt Manhattan building at street level through window graphics, temporary installations, pop-ups and public-facing events. In addition, proposals considered materials, production, scale, visibility and installation feasibility—moving communication design beyond the screen and into the experience of 14th Street.

Group Show Pop-Up
Each designer created an original work rooted in direct observation of 14th Street and translated it into a proposal for temporary display in storefront windows, cafés, galleries or retail interiors. Individual authorship therefore became part of a coordinated corridor-wide exhibition connecting graphic design with place, audience and public space.

14th Street: Edge to Edge
Short-Form Video / Moving Image
Edge to Edge extended the 14th Street Creative Corridor into moving image. Working within designated geographic zones, students created short videos documenting 14th Street through movement, texture or character. Together, the films form a structured visual study of the Manhattan corridor from west to east.
Purpose
A Real Site. A Real Constraint. A Real Audience.
The 14th Street Creative Corridor demonstrates a model of design education built around a real site, real constraints and a real audience.
Ultimately, environmental activation, public exhibition, moving image and site-specific communication became one connected exploration of how design can engage a neighborhood and create public-facing visibility.
